MAAC Players---Michelle Fridey, Canisius
The Golden Griffins' senior catcher has started every game since transferring to Canisius after playing one season at Liberty. Michelle has been named to the MAAC All-Tournament team both of her seasons as well as to the All-MAAC second team in 2008. In her two appearances in the MAAC Tournament, she hit .400 and .455, proving that she produces in the most important situations.
In 2008 she drove in 46 runs, one short of the Canisius record and was 42nd in the nation for RBIs per game. She is solid behind the plate. In 2009 she had a .987 fielding average. Michelle also has good speed on the basepaths.
Michelle Fridey is one of the all time best players in Western New York High School softball history, starring at Williamsville South where she won State Championships and set State records. In her time she set the NY State record for hits in a season, and once had a 35 game hitting streak. She also finished in the top 5 in the state in average, homers, RBIs, and triples. She was an All-State player, and Western New York Player Of The Year. She has also been All-Academic in both high school and college.
Michelle enters 2010 as the only senior on the Canisius squad, and will try to lead her team to a fourth consecutive title.
