Griffs Sweep; Broncs Swept

Canisius got out of Virginia this past weekend with 4 consecutive victories, outscoring their opponents 32-2. The Golden Griffins were at Hampton University Sunday and defeated the Lady Pirates 12-1(5); and 5-1 to complete a weekend sweep. Once again the Griffs' pitching was stellar, with Caroline Main throwing a 3 hitter and Amanda Baun striking out 10. The Canisius offense was unleashed. MAAC batting leader Michelle Fridey continued her hot streak; Lizzy Gatto as well. Last year's leader in triples, Lauren Hope, hit her first of the season and collected 4 RBIs. Canisius will be in Conway, SC this weekend.

Rider is still struggling out of the gate, losing another pair to close the Elon Invitational: 9-0 to Georgetown, and 5-1 to Elon. Coach Tricia Carroll saw some positives in the Broncs' first appearance outside in 2010, but expects more from her team as the season progresses. The Broncs will be in Norfolk, VA this weekend.

The MAAC season will get underway in earnest this upcoming week with Siena, Niagara, and Fairfield all beginning play.
