MAAC RBI leader Michelle Fridey (pictured) drove home 6 runs as Canisius swept Rider on a rain soaked Sunday in Buffalo, NY.
Rider got off to a good start in game one, scoring twice in their first at bat with RBI singles by Amanda Centeno and Heather Muscara. The Golden Griffins tied the game up in the bottom of the inning when Michelle Fridey hit a 2 run home run over the center field fence. They took the lead in the second inning when Amanda Cannizzo drove home Lizzy Gatto and never looked back after that. Later in the same inning, Paige Freiberger hit a bases loaded triple that gave the Griffs a 7-2 lead. Amanda Cannizzo ended the game in the fifth inning with a grand slam home run; she finished the game with 5 RBIs. Caroline Main picked up her 8th consecutive win.
Game two was more of the same, with Canisius striking early and often. The Griffs blew the game open in the third inning when Lauren Hope singled home two runs, and Michelle Fridey doubled home two runs. Amanda Baun earned her MAAC leading 14th win. Michelle Fridey now has 46 RBIs, two short of the all-time Canisius record.
It was a tough weekend for the Broncs, who were run ruled in every game on their trip west. But they are still in the running to qualify for the MAAC Tournament.
Canisius is now 8-2 in the MAAC; 26-14 overall. Rider is 4-6; 11-28-1.
