First Place Showdown

The Iona Gaels pay a visit to Fairfield University Saturday to play a doubleheader with first place in the MAAC on the line. Iona (8-0) is the current resident of the top spot, but a Fairfield (5-1) sweep would put the Stags at number one.

For Iona:
It all begins with pitcher Sarah Jackson, number one in the MAAC with a 2.02 ERA. She is having a fabulous sophomore season, with 2 no hitters to her credit. Offensively, the Gaels boast four .300 hitters, led by freshman Eileen McCann (.384) who leads the MAAC in home runs with 11. Jodi Petersen (.374) and Allyssa James (.364) complete a dangerous trio.

For Fairfield:
2009 MAAC Pitcher Of The Year Sarah Minice is second in the MAAC in wins (11); Kelli Panter has pitched well as of late. Offensively, the Stags are led by Dani Griswold (.383) who is having a career year. Meghan Borst (.336) has been red hot at the plate lately and leads the Stags with 23 RBIs.

This should be a very interesting doubleheader and could be a preview of the MAAC Tournament which will be held next month at Canisius College.
