The Rider Broncs claimed the early lead in the MAAC after defeating St. Peter's in a pair of run rule games won by the scores of 8-0 and 12-0 at Herb And Joan Young Field on the Rider campus.
The first game was scoreless through three innings when Rider broke through for eight runs in the final three innings. For the Broncs, Sam Pugh was 3 for 3, Brittany Eckett (pictured) was 2 for 3, Allyson Melia was also 2 for 3. Rachael Matreale picked up the complete game shutout win, her 4th of the season. St. Peter's picked up 3 hits in the game.
In game number two, Rider was all over the Peahens right from the start, scoring twelve runs on thirteen hits through the first three innings. Brittany Eckett hit a three run homer and finished with four RBIs. Allyson Melia was 3 for 3, Heather Muscara 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Candice Harris went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Kelsey Krisch pitched the shutout for her third win of the season. Stephanie Gilronian had a 3 for 3 game for the Peahens who finished with six hits but committed four errors.
The wins start Rider off at 2-0 (8-15 overall) in the young MAAC season, and currently places them in first place. St. Peter's starts at 0-2, and are now 1-13 on the season.
