Gaels Drop First Tournament Game

Texas 6
Iona 0

Blaire Luna one hit the Iona Gaels in a 6-0 win at the NCAA Austin Regional Thursday night. The Texas freshman struck out 14 and picked up her 30th win of the season.

Texas used their power in the NCAA Tournament opener for both teams, hitting four home runs. Loryn Johnson hit a solo homer in the 2nd inning, Courtney Craig and Taylor Hoagland hit back-to-back solo homers in the 3rd inning and Nadia Taylor hit a two run homer in the 5th inning to lead the Longhorns.

Sarah Jackson started for the Gaels, but was pulled in the 5th inning with Texas leading 3-0. She struck out three before being replaced by Alyssa Maiese.

The Gaels continue Friday at the Austin Regional with a game against East Carolina, who earlier in the day lost 1-0 to Brigham Young University. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament. Game time is 6pm EDT.

Why did the Iona coach take Sarah Jackson out of the game with the score only 3-0?

I do not know. Sarah gave up 3 homers, but they were all solos.
