Lady Jaspers Prevail In Extra Innings

Manhattan 2
Marist 1 (9)

Game one of this important MAAC doubleheader has just ended with Manhattan beating Marist 2-1 when Amanda Babcock (pictured) scored the winning run in the 9th inning for the Lady Jaspers.

Kristina Walraven led off the game for Manhattan with a home run to give the LJs the early lead. Kristina was 3 for 4 in the game. But Marist put up a good fight, getting solid pitching from Emily Osterhaus. The Red Foxes tied the game in the 5th inning on a Nicole DiVirgilio single which scored Ashley Corriss. The Lady Jaspers loaded the bases in the 8th inning when Marist intentionally walked .400 hitter Jaci Rahey with one out. It turned out to be a wise decision as the Red Foxes got Nicole Michel to line into a double play.
Amanda Babcock led off the 9th for the LJs with a single, was sacrificed to second base, got to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a 2 out error.

Close call for the Lady Jaspers, but the win is all that matters; they are now 7-6 in the MAAC. They will play game two shortly in Poughkeepsie.
