For the second consecutive year, the MAAC Coach Of The Year has resigned. Last year it was Manhattan's Meaghan Asselta. This time Iona's Jaime Wohlbach, who led the Iona Gaels out of nowhere to the MAAC Championship, has left her team to take the head coaching job at Delaware.

Apparently Delaware has been targeting Coach Wohlbach for some time after having 30 year coach B.J Ferguson step down to take another position at the school.

This can only be characterized as a serious blow to Iona and the MAAC as well. No word yet from New Rochelle on a replacement.

the maac needs to be more competitive...simple changes like full-time assistant coaches, increasing scholarships, increasing budgets, creating a GA position...not necessarily all of those listed, even one, would make a significant difference. yes it all takes money, but in many cases, the money is there.

Speaking of assistant coaches, I believe Jaime Wohlbach took all of her assistants with her to Delaware. At least they're not listed on the Iona website. It will be interesting to see who Iona comes up with as a replacement.

BTW, I have to mention that a month previous to the hiring, I was hearing rumors of Jaime Wohlbach to Delaware.
