Stags Lose Extra Innings Pitchers' Duel
Freshman Lauren Liseth (pictured) hit 3 for 3, but the Fairfield Stags dropped a close one in extra inning to Towson in Greenville, NC Saturday.
A very different game against the Towson Tigers, to whom Fairfield lost 11-10 yesterday, but the Stags once again lost to them on a walk off hit. Lauren Liseth accounted for all the Stags' hits in this game, including a home run blast to center field in the 4th inning that tied the game. She also hit a pair of singles and stole a base, and is now hitting .556. Not bad for her first weekend of college ball.
Fairfield starter Sarah Minice pitched another strong game. Just as happened yesterday, she gave up a 1st inning run then pitched 6 consecutive shutout innings. But in the 8th inning, with the international tiebreaker rule in effect, and a runner beginning the inning at second base, Towson loaded the bases and singled home the winning run, which was unearned. Sarah finished with 3 strikeouts, allowing 6 hits.
The Stags will take on host East Carolina later today at the Pirate Clash.
