Megan Lamoureux (pictured) drove home 8 runs Saturday as her Marist Red Foxes won 2 of 3 games at the Lady Pirates Classic in Hampton, VA.

The big east coast rain storm compelled the Red Foxes to complete the remainder of their tournament games in one day, but they were up for the challenge. They almost hit a "triple" too as they lost a close opening game to Farleigh Dickinson. Marist took a quick 4-0 lead in that one. Caitlin Schell and Haley Birnbaum drove home runs in the 1st inning, while Alyssa Zahka drove home a pair in the 2nd inning to put Marist up. FDU put 3 runs up of their own, then Megan Lamoureux drove home Ashley Corriss, who had doubled previously, with a suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 4th . FDU then took a 6-5 lead with three runs in the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Red Foxes tied it up when Megan Lamoureux singled home Christina Lausch. But FDU scored twice in the top of the 7th to win 8-6. Wild game though, and the Red Foxes would not be discouraged by the close loss.

After a short break, the Red Foxes then played a game against host Hampton. They won this game 6-2, and did so by scoring all their runs in a big 3rd inning. Megan Lamoureux began the flood of runs by hitting a bases loaded single for yet another RBI. Alyssa Zahka then knocked one run home, followed by 2 RBIs by Haley Birnbaum, and 2 RBIs by Lindsay Durant. Emily Osterhaus picked up another win, allowing 2 runs with neither of them being earned.

After another short rest, the Red Foxes completed their tripleheader by taking on Maryland-Eastern Shore and topping off their day with a run rule victory. They broke open a close game with 6 runs in the final 2 innings. Megan Lamoureux had 5 RBIs in this game with the help of a home run and double. Nicole DiVirgilio also homered. Caitlin Schell was 3 for 3 in this game. Paige Lewis picked up the win, striking out 7 in the shortened game.

Yes, the offensive numbers were staggering for Marist today! I kind of lost track, but here's a summary of sorts:
Caitlin Schell was 6 for 9; Alyssa Zhaka had 4 RBIs; and of course Megan Lamoureux was 4 for 8 with 5 RBIs. The Red Foxes won 3 of 5 games this weekend after a slow start to their season. Next week they will be in the same area, this time Norfolk, VA for the Norfolk State Tournament.
