Hard Luck Rachael

Youngstown St. 3
Rider 2 (10)

Box Score

It seems that almost every time Rider's Rachael Matreale pitches, her ERA goes down but her losses go up. The Broncs lost a 10 inning affair to Youngstown State at the Rebel Spring Games Monday in Kissimmee, FL.

Rachael pitched another very good game, striking out 5 and walking only 2. She allowed only one earned run, and saw her ERA drop from 2.72 to 2.30. But she saw her record drop to 1-5. The record and ERA don't go together and the Broncs must find a way to support her offensively come MAAC play.

This was a close one though. After falling behind 1-0, the Broncs tied the game in the 4th inning on a Sam Pugh pinch hit single that scored Samantha Mayer. The game would stay tied through regulation. In the top of the 8th inning, with the international tiebreaker rule in effect, the Broncs took the lead when Amanda Centeno singled home Kehli Washington. Youngstown State would tie it right up in the bottom of the inning, and go on to win the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th.

Rider lost earlier in the day to Army, 10-3. They continue at the Rebel Spring Games Wednesday with games against Lafayette and Eastern Illinois.
