Jessika-Jo Leads Saints To Win
Jessika-Jo Sandrini (pictured) threw a two hit shutout, hit 3 for 4 and was instrumental in both of Siena's runs as the Saints split on day one at the Retriever Classic with a 2-0 win over Princeton.
Jessika-Jo Sandrini continued the great start to her freshman season. She got the Saints on the board in the 4th inning when she led off with a single. After being sacrificed to 2nd base by a Natasha Powlowsky bunt, and to third base by a Courtney Brinkman grounder, she beat the throw home after a Kayla Kaminsky grounder. Kayla was credited with the RBI.
The Saints scored an insurance run in the top of the 6th inning; this time Jessika-Jo led off with a double to center field. Taylor Guerin went in to pinch run for her, and beat the throw to third on a Nastasha Powlowsky grounder---everyone safe. Courtney Brinkman then sent Taylor home and earned a RBI on a fielder's choice. Jessika-Jo Sandrini shut down the Tigers the rest of the way, retiring the last 2 Princeton batters on strikeouts to finish with 5 for the game. She improved her record to 2-1. She hit 4 for 5 in two games Friday.
The Saints had 5 hits in this game, Shannon Jones and Alyssa Sceppaguercio accounting for the other two. Siena improves to 3-3 on the season, and continues play in Baltimore, MD Saturday with a game against host UMBC.
