Another fine performance by freshman Katie Bowen (pictured) resulted in a 4-0 win for Manhattan at the Seton Hall Pirate Classic in South Orange, NJ Sunday.
As the only freshman on a senior laden team, Katie Bowen has fit in quite well. As a matter of fact, she currently leads the Lady Jaspers in hitting and pitching. Sunday she pitched a 3 hit shutout over Lafayette, striking out 5 in the process. Only one runner got to 3rd base on her---and that late in the game with the LJs up 4-0. Offensively, she scored a run to help her own cause.
Manhattan opened the game with a Nicole Michel sacrifice fly RBI in the 1st inning which scored Katie Bowen. They added to their lead in the 3rd inning when pinch runner Michelle Roemer scored on a throwing error and Meghan McDevitt singled home Jen Keller. The LJs scored another run in the 5th inning on another error that allowed Jen Keller to score once more.
Manhattan will play at home in a doubleheader against Columbia on Thursday.
