LJs Snap Losing Streak
The Manhattan Lady Jaspers stopped the bleeding with a 6-4 win over Lafayette at the Pirate Classic in South Orange, NJ Friday.
The LJs, after exploding out of the gate to begin the season, lost 9 consecutive games...5 of them were by one run and 3 of those were in extra innings. More hard luck than anything I guess, but I'm sure they were relieved to get the tiger off their tail. They fell behind 4-0 in their game against Lafayette and said "enough is enough!". Katie Bowen got things rolling with a RBI single in the 3rd inning; Jaci Rahey (pictured) followed her with an RBI double and the lead was cut in half. The LJs kept it going in the 4th inning when Monica Evangelista brought home 2 runs with a single to center field to tie the game. Katie Bowen's second RBI of the game gave Manhattan the lead in the 6th inning. Erika Sullivan singled home another run for good measure in the same inning. Pitching was by committee, with Melissa Donnelly getting the start, Katie Bowen pitching 2 innings in the middle, and Erika Sullivan pitching the final 2 innings and earning the win.
Manhattan then played a close game with host Seton Hall. The LJs had only one hit in this, but made it pay. Monica Evangelista singled in the 6th inning, stole second base, and scored on a bad throw. Ashley Rampino pitched a good game, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, but Manhattan fell short.
The Lady Jaspers continue at the Pirate Classic Saturday with a game against Sacred heart and then a two day playoff.
