Red Foxes Continue Hot Streak
Marist continued their recent good play with a pair of wins Saturday at the Spartan Classic in Norfolk, VA.
After a slow start to their season, the Red Foxes have come alive, winning 5 of their last 6 games. Saturday they received clutch pitching that gave them the advantage of playing with the lead all day long. Emily Osterhaus (pictured) fought off a furious Delaware rally in the Red Foxes' first game of the day, stranding a Blue Hen on 3rd base as the final out of the game was recorded. She struck out 6 and walked no one in earning her third win of the season. Marist scored 4 times in the game's first 2 innings with the help of 3 Delaware errors and RBIs by Alyssa Zahka and Aly Klemmer. Danielle Koltz was 3 for 4 in this game; Megan Lamoureux had a pair of hits.
Freshman Hayley Shelton earned the first win of her career over UMES. She scattered 9 hits while striking out 4. Her team gave her a 3 run lead in the 1st inning and never looked back. After Ashley Corriss scored on a Nicole DiVirgilio ground out, freshman Haley Birnbaum slugged her second homer of the year, producing 2 more runs. Sarah Carmody doubled home another run in the 4th inning, allowing Hayley Shelton to breeze through the final 3 innings.
Marist is now 5-7 on the season and return to action Sunday against St. Francis and Norfolk St.
