Nicole DiVirgilio (pictured) drove home 6 runs Wednesday as the Red Foxes moved into second place in the MAAC with a sweep of Maryland-Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD.

Marist started their 2011 with 6 straight losses, but have since won 10 of 13 to put their record over .500 for the first time since opening day 2009. The first game of this doubleheader was tied at 4-4 when the Red Foxes broke it open with 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning. Ashley Corriss singled home a run; Megan Lamoureux doubled home another; and Nicole DiVirgilio singled home a pair to give Marist the win. Nicole was 3 for 5 in this game. Freshman Hayley Shelton earned her 2nd win of the season and struck out 6.

Nicole DiVirgilio hit 2 doubles and drove home 4 runs. Alyssa Zahka was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs; Ashley Corriss 3 for 3; Hayley Birnbaum 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Freshman Paige Lewis picked up the win and raised her record to 3-2, striking out 8 in the effort.

The Red Foxes improved their record to 10-9, and are currently in 2nd place. They really are playing very good softball right now, and will continue their road trip in El Paso, TX this weekend where they will play a pair of doubleheaders against Texas-El Paso.
