Saints Drop Retriever Classic Opener
Courtney Brinkman (pictured) homered, but it wasn't enough as the Siena Saints fell to Liberty Friday morning in Baltimore, MD.
The Saints opened play at the UMBC Retriever Classic in good fashion, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead. In the top of the 1st inning, Shannon Jones and Jessika-Jo Sandrini hit RBI singles after lead off walks to Mandy Ferro and Samantha Ray. Unfortunately the Saints would not get another hit until the 6th inning. Darcy Gardner made her first college start and got the Saints out of the 1st inning quickly. But she got into trouble in the bottom of the 2nd inning giving up a pair of singles, a double and a home run. She was relieved by Amanda Filippazzo with Liberty in the lead 4-2. The game stayed close until Liberty hit a pair of homers in the 5th inning. Courtney Brinkman hit her solo shot in the 6th inning, but the Flames scored 4 runs in the bottom of that inning to achieve the run rule result.
The Saints drop to 2-3 on the season and will play Princeton later today.
