The Siena Saints lost to Maryland-Baltimore County in their only game Saturday at the Retriever Classic in Baltimore, MD.
The Saints fell behind early in this one and never recovered. UMBC put up 4 runs in the first 2 innings to cruise to victory. Amanda Filippazzo took the loss; Siena produced only two hits.
Does anyone have a photo of freshman Jessika-Jo Sandrini (pictured) in a Siena uniform, because if she keeps playing like this I'm going to need it. Jessika-Jo was 1 for 1 today. She tripled in the 4th inning and accounted for Siena's only run when sacrificed home by Courtney Brinkman. She also walked, and was hit by a pitch her last at bat (maybe not by accident). Jessika-Jo is currently leading the MAAC with a .688 average...an astounding 188 points above the number two hitter. She is also second in the MAAC in pitching. I wrote in the preseason that the Saints have a lot of young talent---Shannon Jones is over .400, and Samantha Ray (who had Siena's other hit in this game, and also leads the team in assists) is over .300. They are an up and coming team who just need the experience now.
The Saints close out play at the Retriever Classic Sunday with a game against Mount Saint Mary's.
