Stags Open Weekend With Win

Fairfield 4
Stony Brook 1

Freshman Kimi Kurata (pictured) hit a pair of home runs, and drove home 3 as the Fairfield Stags opened play at the Wolfpack Challenge in Raleigh, NC Friday morning.

The Fairfield freshmen are at it again. This time it was Kimi Kurata and Rae Ball coming up with big games. Rae pitched a complete game victory, scattering 6 hits and allowing just one earned run. The Stags got on the board first, in the 2nd inning when the red hot Ali Wigand clubbed a solo homer over the center field fence. After Stony Brook scored their only run in the top of the 3rd inning, Fairfield immediately responded in the bottom of the same inning when Kimi Kurata hit a solo shot over the center field fence. Then in the 5th inning, after Macy Cutshaw singled, Kimi smashed a pitch over the left field fence and the Stags won, 4-1.

Kimi Kurata was 2 for 2; Ali Wigand was 2 for 3; Lauren Liseth also had a hit. The Stags will play later today against host North Carolina State.
