Stags Split At Mustang Classic

UNLV 6
Fairfield 2

Fairfield 3
Cal Poly 1

UNLV Box Score

The Fairfield Stags earned a split on the first day of The Mustang Classic in San Luis Obispo, CA due in large part to a 6 for 7 performance by freshman Lauren Liseth (pictured) and stellar pitching from Sarah Minice.

The Stags had only 4 hits against UNLV, but 3 of them were off the bat of Lauren Liseth, who also drove home a run. The Stags did take an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Kristen Filicia toured the bases courtesy of a walk, a wild pitch, a passed ball and an error. UNLV however would respond with 6 runs on 11 hits over the next 6 innings for the win.

The Stags were in control all through their game with host Cal Poly. Sarah Minice pitched a great game, scattering 4 hits and allowing one run late in the game. Again Fairfield jumped in front in the 1st inning, with a Lauren Liseth single and Kristina Lingo double giving them a 2-0 lead. Lauren Liseth drove home her 3rd run of the day with a 5th inning double that scored Kristen Filicia. Lauren was 3 for 3 in this game, making her work for the day a great 6 for 7. Sarah Minice closed the deal in the 7th for her 4th win of the season.

The Stags continue Saturday at the Mustang Classic with a rematch against Cal Poly and a game against Oregon.

I think Fairfield is looking good heading into MAAC play...I am sticking with my top 4 prediction for the Stags

I thought they did OK in their loss to a very good Oregon team Saturday---they had their chances, even late in the game.

The Stags have some very good freshmen, and they aren't over working Sarah Minice thus far.
