Lauren Hope closes in on the MAAC stolen bases record

Canisius became the last MAAC team to open at home when they swept St. Peter's Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, NY.

The Golden Griffins finally got to play a game on their home field and made the most of it. Canisius scored 3 runs in the 1st inning of game one. Lauren Hope led off with a single, then after a stolen base and wild pitch, was sent home by a Lizzy Gatto triple. The Griffs followed this with RBI singles by Paige Freiberger and Katie Lancellotti. After a Lizzy Gatto walk and Paige Freiberger double to begin the 3rd inning, Canisius scored twice on sacrifice flies by Stephanie Pfentner and Emily Helbig. Paige Freiberger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 4th inning; the game ended in the 5th when Lauren Hope tripled home 2 runs, then scored on a wild pitch. Jen Consaul won for Canisius; Shelby Beaver took the loss for the Peahens.

Canisius came out strong in game two, scoring 6 runs in their first at bat. Once again, Lauren Hope led off the game with a single and stolen base. She was sent home by Lauren Falzone's triple. After Lizzy Gatto walked, she and Lauren executed a double steal to bring home another run. This was followed by RBI singles off the bats of: Emily Helbig, Katie Lancellotti, Chloe Contreras and Lauryn Chris. The Griffs wrapped up another run rule win when a St. Peter's throwing error scored 3 runs in the 4th inning. Amanda Baun won for Canisius, striking out 8. Caroline Main pitched the final inning and struck out the side, giving Canisius 11 for the game. Erica Colon took the loss for the Peahens.

Canisius will host Manhattan Sunday, while St. Peter's travels to Niagara.
