The Manhattan Lady Jaspers became the first MAAC team to beat Marist, sweeping them Sunday in Riverdale, NY by identical 9-6 scores.

Manhattan emerged as the threat everyone thought they would be with a wild doubleheader sweep of Marist. The Red Foxes, however, did not go down easy and opened the scoring in game one. A 1st inning home run off the bat of Aly Klemmer gave them a 2-0 lead after Ashley Corriss had opened the game with a single. The LJs struck back in the bottom of the 2nd inning, first with an Erika Sullivan double which scored Melissa Donnelly. Then with two runners on, senior Kristina Walraven stepped up to the plate and crushed a pitch over the center field fence which gave Manhattan a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the LJs went up 7-2 with a 2 RBI single by Katie Bowen and a bases loaded walk to Melissa Donnelly. Marist fought back to cut the Manhattan lead to 7-6 with runs in the 5th and 6th innings. Homers by Megan Lamoureux and Aly Klemmer (her second of the game) in the 5th, and a run scored by Ashley Corriss as the result of an error in the 6th pulled the Red Foxes to within a run. But in the bottom of the 6th inning, after a Kristina Walraven single, Ashley Rampino homered and Manhattan was up 9-6. Marist did load the bases in the 7th inning, but Ashley Rampino retired Ashley Corriss for the final out, earning a save in relief of Erika Sullivan. Emily Osterhaus took the loss, and the Red Foxes' 13 game winning streak was over.

Game two was a back and forth affair. Marist again opened the scoring in their first at bats when a long Alyssa Zahka foul ball scored Ashley Corriss for a 1-0 lead. The Lady Jaspers answered immediately in their first at bats when they loaded the bases and Jaci Rahey scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Marist went right back in front in the top of the 2nd inning when Sarah Carmody singled home Danielle Koltz, who had walked and stolen a base. The bottom of the 4th inning was productive for Manhattan. Ashley Rampino led off with a single, and was then bunted to 2nd base by Jen Keller. Monica Evangelista tied the game with a double that scored Ashley, then, after Melissa Cascio walked, Amanda Babcock gave the LJs a 4-2 lead when she singled to score both runners. Marist fought back, scoring 4 times in the top of the 5th inning to take a 6-4 lead. RBIs by Nicole DiVirgilio and Danielle Koltz, and two of them by Alyssa Zahka put the Red Foxes back on top. But the LJs exploded for 5 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the 6th inning to win the game. After loading the bases, and after shortstop Alyssa Zahka threw out a runner at home plate, Kristina Walraven singled to cut the Marist lead to 6-5. That's when freshman Katie Bowen stepped up and singled to center field to drive in the tying and winning runs. A subsequent double by Nicole Michel added a pair of insurance runs. The LJs used three pitchers in this game, with Katie Bowen finishing and picking up her 3rd win. Paige Lewis took the lost for Marist.

Marist lost their first 2 games in MAAC play, and are now 8-2 . Manhattan raised their record to 5-3.
