The Peahens won their second game of the season by splitting a doubleheader with Lafayette Wednesday at Easton, PA.
After falling behind 1-0 early in game one, the Peahens bolted out in front with a couple of strong innings. In the 2nd inning, after a 2 out Monique Flores single, Vanessa Acosta (pictured) launched a homer over the left field fence to put St. Peter's up 2-1. The sophomore has missed most of the season, due to injury I presume, and the Peahens have certainly missed her bat. In the 3rd inning, St. Peter's exploded for 4 runs on 5 hits. Once again they used their speed game, loading the bases with three consecutive bunt singles by Jillian Picchini, Ashley Brown and Stephanie Gilronan. A Shelby Beaver sacrifice fly scored a run; Kristen Kaneyuki then doubled home two more; Monique Flores followed that with a double of her own to give the Peahens a 6-1 lead. Lafayette fought their way back into the game, but Erica Colon, in relief of starter Shelby Beaver, retired the Leopards in order in the 7th inning for the win. Erica earned a save; Shelby picked up her second win of the season. Monique Flores was 3 for 4 in this game.
The Peahens lost the second game, 9-2. Alexis Gallagher was 2 for 3 in this game, with a RBI.
