Ashley Corriss (pictured) cleared the bases in game two of Saturday's MAAC doubleheader to help her Red Foxes sweep Siena in Poughkeepsie, NY.

We've learned that you can never count the Marist Red Foxes out; Saturday they came from behind in two MAAC games to win. This really was a great and competitive doubleheader between two up and coming teams. Siena jumped in front in game one when Shannon Jones clubbed a 2 run homer over the right field fence in the first inning. Samantha Ray had singled previously, and the Saints had a 2-0 lead. Siena starter Jessika-Jo Sandrini held the Red Foxes scoreless until the 3rd inning when Nicole DiVirgilio swatted one over the center field fence to halve the Saints lead. A 4th inning solo shot by freshman Alyssa Zahka tied the game at 2-2. Alyssa opened the Marist 6th inning with a single; Nicole Van Loan came in to pinch run for her. Sarah Carmody followed this with a single, and Christina Lausch was sent in to pinch run for her. After a Megan Lamoureux walk loaded the bases, Nicole DiVirgilio singled home the winning run, her second RBI of the game. Paige Lewis picked up her 7th win, striking out 4 and walking no one.

The Saints opened game 2 with an offensive flurry, scoring 5 runs in the first 3 innings. In the 1st inning, Alyssa Sceppaguercio hit a double that scored Mandy Ferro, Natasha Powlowsky and Shannon Jones. In the 2nd inning, a Shannon Jones sacrifice fly scored Lindsey McKeever, who had made her way to 3rd base after a bunt single, and the Saints had a 4-0 lead. Marist would come back strong in the bottom of the same inning however, scoring 5 runs. A single and 3 walks scored Aly Klemmer. Then, with the bases still loaded, Ashley Corriss smacked a double to deep center field for 3 RBIs and a tied game. Megan Lamoureux then singled home Ashley and Marist suddenly had a 5-4 lead. The Saints would tie it back up in the next inning though when Kayla Kaminsky singled home Mandy Ferro. In the 4th, Siena's Jessika-Jo Sandrini bombed a solo homer to regain the lead for her team, 6-5. The game settled down after that as starters Emily Osterhaus and the Saints' Amanda Filippazzo provided good pitching to hold each team at bay. The Saints held the lead until the bottom of the 7th inning, when with one out and a runner on 3rd base, Jessika-Jo Sandrini came in to relieve Amanda Filippazzo. After a walk to Danielle Koltz, who was conceded 2nd base to hold the runner at 3rd, both runners scored on a throwing error by first baseman Kayla Kaminsky and the Red Foxes had the dramatic 7-6 win.

It was a tough way for Siena to lose, but both teams showed themselves well and gave a foreshadowing of the battle to be for the top 4 spots in the MAAC.
