Siena And Manhattan Split
Siena and Manhattan split a MAAC doubleheader Saturday at Riverdale, NY. Siena rode the pitching of Jessika-Jo Sandrini in game one, and the Lady Jaspers exploded for a baker's dozen in game two.
Game one featured a 7 strikeout performance by Siena's Jessika-Jo Sandrini (pictured left), who limited the LJs to 5 hits. It was Jessika-Jo herself who got the scoring going in this game. She led off the 1st inning by hitting a double, and after Samantha Ray bunted her to 3rd base, she was sent home by Shannon Jones' sacrifice fly. A Katie Bowen double and Jaci Rahey sacrifice fly did give Manhattan a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning, a lead they would hold until the Siena batted in the 5th. In that inning, a 2 RBI single by Lyndsey McKeever would provide the winning margin for the Saints. Alyssa Sceppaguercio and Sarah Gallachi scored on the play after both had reached on singles. Jessika-Jo then shut the door, allowing Manhattan no more hits over the final 3 innings. She improved her record to 7-6, and hit 2 for 4 in the game. Erika Sullivan took the loss for the Lady Jaspers.
Game two was quite a different story. The Lady Jaspers scored 13 runs in the game's first 3 innings, knocking Siena starter Amanda Filippazzo out early. The LJs were led by Nicole Michel (pictured left), who 3 RBIs. Jen Keller, Ashley Rampino and Meghan McDevitt each drove home a pair of runs. Single runs were driven home by: Kristina Walraven, who also scored 3 runs; Jaci Rahey; Melisa Donnelly; and Melissa Cascio. Ashley Rampino earned her 2nd MAAC victory, striking out 7 in the run rule shortened game.
On Sunday, Siena will travel to St. Peter's while Manhattan will host first place Marist.
