Fairfield and Siena played a classic Saturday in Loudonville, NY, but it was the Stags who came away with a pair of MAAC wins.

Why don't we start with the epic game two...12 innings of "never say die" softball from two MAAC teams fighting for position in the standings. Fairfield took the lead in the 1st inning thanks in large part to the work of freshman Kristen Filicia. Like any good lead off hitter, Kristen gets on base any way she can, this time getting hit by a pitch. It didn't hurt too bad, because she immediately stole 2nd base. She must have been feeling much better, because she then stole 3rd! Kristina Lingo then gave her a trip home by singling, and the Stags led 1-0. Siena came back to tie the game in the 2nd inning. Mandy Ferro led off with a double, and was bunted to 2nd base by Alyssa Sceppaguercio. Natasha Powlowsky singled her home, and it was a 1-1 game. Fairfield went back on top in the 3rd inning. Again, Kristen Filicia started things by getting on base, this time with a walk. She stole 2nd base, her 3rd theft of the game. Tiffany Lawson sacrificed her to 3rd; from there she scampered home after a wild pitch. Now you know why Kristen hits lead off! The Stags weren't done---Lauren Liseth then walked, and was followed by a Kristina Lingo single. Ali Wigand then singled Lauren home, and Fairfield was up 3-1. They held this lead until the bottom of the 6th inning when the Saints stormed back. Shannon Jones led off with a double, and made it to 3rd base on a wild pitch. Kirstyn Vaughn then singled; Kristen Borsella was sent in to pinch run for her. A Mandy Ferro sac fly scored Shannon, and moved Kristen to 2nd base. Kayla Kaminsky then tied the game with a double. Enter Sarah Minice. Fairfield's ace relieved starter Rebecca Trott at this point. She would go on to pitch 6.1 innings of shutout softball, allowing only 4 more hits. Pitching for Siena was Amanda Filippazzo, who heroically pitched the whole 12 innings. She would shutout the Stags for 8 consecutive innings before succumbing in the 12th. In that inning, Fairfield led off with a Kristina Lingo single. Ali Wigand bunted her to 2nd; and she got to 3rd after a passed ball. Rae Ball then singled home the winning run. Sarah Minice surrendered a single to Samantha Ray in the bottom of the 12th, but retired Shannon Jones and Kirstyn Vaughn to earn her 2nd win of the day. All told, it was a classic game.

Fairfield won the first game of the doubleheader 5-3. Sarah Minice got the complete game victory, aided by a quick 4-0 lead. Kristen Filicia led off with a single, and was tripled home by Tiffany Lawson to open the game. Tiffany was 4 for 4 in this game, with 2 doubles and a triple. A sac fly by Lauren Liseth made it 2-0. The Stags went up 4-0 in the 3rd inning when Rae Ball singled home Ali Wigand and Kristina Lingo. A Shannon Jones RBI single cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the 3rd. Doubles by Kimi Kurata and Tiffany Lawson gave Fairfield a 5-1 lead in the 6th. Siena rallied for 2 runs in the 7th, on a 2 RBI Shannon Jones single, but it wasn't enough. Jessika-Jo Sandrini took the loss.

Fairfield's freshmen keep coming up big, and Sarah Minice gives them great confidence as she has returned to her Pitcher Of The Year form. Tough losses for Siena, but you see the progression in their game. They will get back at it Sunday with a home date against Rider.
