The Fairfield Stags took a pair of games from Gardner-Webb Saturday at the Seahawk Classic in Wilmington, NC, and earned their way to the tournament's championship game.

In the first game Saturday, the Stags fell behind early, 2-0, before striking for five consecutive runs. In the second inning, freshman Brianna Levick smashed her first career home run good for three runs. Fairfield went up 5-2 in the next inning courtesy of a two run homer off the bat of Lauren Liseth. In the fifth inning, Brianna drove home another run, her fourth RBI of the game, as did fellow freshman Sammy Ruffolo. The Stags won 7-4, with Emily Orr earning the win. Becca Trott provided four innings of solid relief; Rae Ball earned a save by pitching the final inning.

The two teams met again in one of the tournament's semi-final games. Again G-W took an early 2-0 lead, but Lauren Liseth and Ali Wigand RBIs tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gardner-Webb retook the lead with a run in the top of the sixth, setting up the heroics to come. A bases loaded single by Kristen Filicia in the bottom of the seventh tied the score, but Tanya Lawson was forced out at the plate for the inning's second out. Lauren Liseth then stepped up, and calmly stroked a pitch to center that scored Brianna Levick and gave the Stags a 4-3 win. Rae Ball earned the complete game victory. Fairfield advanced to Sunday's championship game vs. Kansas, and moved to the top of the MAAC standings.
