Saints Open Play This Weekend

Jessika-Jo Sandrini and Shannon Jones will attempt to lead Siena to the promised land

The Siena Saints will become the next MAAC school to open their 2012 softball season when they travel to Washington D.C. Friday to begin play at the Colonial Classic hosted by George Washington University. They will play Robert Morris, Stony Brook, Buffalo, Army and the host Colonials.

The Saints have made it their stated mission to qualify for the MAAC Tournament this season. They have not made it to the post season since 2003, but they look to have their strongest lineup in years when they take the field later this week. Returning to lead Siena is .400 hitter Shannon Jones. The junior shortstop is poised to replace Teresa Healy as the conference's top player, but she isn't alone. Jessika-Jo Sandrini is coming off a great debut season, and could be a big splash in the circle this year. Lindsey McKeever and Amanda Filippazzo lead a strong senior class; sophomore Samantha Ray is a preseason All-MAAC pick. The Saints will have six freshmen on the roster this season.
