St. Peter's opened their 2012 season with a pair of losses at the Longwood Spring Classic Saturday in Farmville, VA.

Junior pitcher Shelby Beaver was brilliant in defeat for St. Peter's today, giving her team every opportunity to win today against Oakland. And they nearly did too, twice being thrown out at the plate. The Peahens came out strong, with three hits in the first inning. Alexis Gallagher, who had singled to open the game, was thrown out attempting to score after Krystine Rice singled. St. Peter's nearly scored again in the 8th inning, but this time pinch runner Aimee Schnecker was thrown out at home. Shelby Beaver shut down the Oakland offense for the game's first seven innings, but with the international run rule in effect in the eighth inning, and the runner bunted over to third base, Oakland hit one out for the win. Freshman Krystine Rice had a strong first game for the Peahens, with a pair of hits. Shelby Beaver contributed a hit to go along with her pitching performance.

Not a good outing for the Peahens in game two of the day vs. Quinnipiac. But, they'll be back at it Sunday with a rematch against Quinnipiac and a game against host Longwood.
