Stags Bounce Back With Win
Fairfield earned their first victory of the young season with a 6-3 win over UNC-Wilmington at the Seahawk Classic in Wilmington, NC Friday.
The Stags scored all of their runs in the first two innings of this game and cruised the rest of the way for the win. Lauren Liseth drove home the game's first run in inning one after her infield grounder scored Kristen Filicia who had singled and reached third base after an error and sacrifice bunt by Mikayla Shumate. The Stags then exploded for five runs in the second frame. The onslaught began with Kristen Filicia getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Mikayla Shumate followed that with a two run single; she was followed by Lauren Liseth's two run double, and the the Stags had a quick 6-0 lead. Starting pitcher Becca Trott allowed only one hit through the first six innings before running out of gas and giving up three in the 7th inning. She struck out six on the game.
Fairfield evens their record at 1-1, and continue play at the Seahawk Classic Saturday with a game against Gardner Webb and then a playoff game.
