Mandy Ferro lit up Army's pitching
The Siena Saints picked up their first win of the season Saturday at the Colonial Classic in Washington, D.C.
Rain is still wreaking havoc on MAAC teams this weekend, but the Siena Saints managed to get a game in today, and broke out their bats in doing so. Going up against Army, the Saints jumped out to a quick lead in the second inning when Nastasha Powlowsky smashed a pitch out of the park that scored pinch runner Stephanie Sueda for a 2-0 advantage. Army got one of those runs back in the top of the third inning, and then tied the game in the top of the sixth inning before Siena exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Lyndsey McKeever, Mandy Ferro and Alyssa Sceppaguercio all pitched in RBIs before Shannon Jones salted the game with a three run shot. Shannon has two homers and five RBIs in the Saints' first three games this year. Amanda Filippazzo was rock steady in earning the complete game win. Mandy Ferro finished the game 3 for 4; Nastasha Powlowsky 2 for 3.
The Saints' scheduled game today against Buffalo was canceled. They will conclude play at the Colonial Classic Sunday with a game against host George Washington.
