Big Weekend Of MAAC Softball

This is the weekend when the MAAC race really should start to heat up. Expect the standings to change over the next few days, but to what? Niagara will be the last team to open conference play when they host Iona for a doubleheader Saturday. Iona and Fairfield are on their "western" trip, never an easy one, to play the Purple Eagles and Canisius. Weather may keep them there an extra day too, as Sunday calls for thunderstorms. The Golden Griffins hope to parlay their home field advantage into a quick conference start. Siena gets to play a pair of doubleheaders at home; Saturday against Manhattan, and Sunday against St. Peter's. After their disappointing extra innings loss at Canisius last week, the Saints need a big performance. St. Peter's has won an early MAAC game, as they did last season. The Peahens have been much more competitive in 2012 than the past two seasons; they will be lookong to "steal" one or two in Loudonville. But first they must play at Marist, who came so very close to sweeping Fairfield last week and dropping the Stags to an 0-4 start. The Red Foxes will then travel to Lawrenceville, NJ Sunday to meet Rider, which will be a pivotal matchup for positioning in the standings.

Should be a great weekend of action...you can read all about it here!
