The Niagara Purple Eagles and Manhattan Lady Jaspers split a MAAC doubleheader Saturday in Riverdale, NY.

The Lady Jaspers unleashed their bats for a dozen runs on 15 hits, eight of them for extra bases, in game one. Doubles by Jocelin Whitmore and Amanda Babcock, and a triple by Katie Bowen, gave Manhattan a 2-0 lead after an inning. Niagara bounced back to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning thanks to RBIs by Becky Zill, Jen Hare and Alexis Wayne. The LJs erased that lead quickly though in the bottom of the same inning, scoring four times with RBIs off the bats of Katie Bowen, Sydney Weedon, Jen Keller and Amanda Paxson, giving them a lead they would never relinquish. Freshman Kelsi Redding picked up her third win of the season; Amanda Babcock and Katie Bowen both had three hit games, and Meghan McDevitt drove home three runs.

In game two, Niagara turned the tables with a 10-2 win. The game was close until the Purple Eagles blew it open with a seven run sixth inning, highlighted by Jessica Hitchcock's grand slam home run. Alexis Wayne and Amanda Arendt also homered for Niagara, who pounded out a dozen hits all told. Kim Bryson struck out eight in earning her fourth win of the season.

Niagara is now 3-7 in the conference; Manhattan 2-8.
