Ellie Hanover To Be Named New Niagara Softball Head Coach

Courtesy of the Gaston Gazette

Former MAAC batting champion Ellie Hanover is returning to the conference, and will soon be named Niagara University's new softball head coach.

Ellie Hanover has spent the last three seasons as the head coach of Belmont Abbey College, a division 2 school in Charlotte, NC. Prior to that, Ellie coached division 2 Florida Tech, leading them to a school record of wins. She began her coaching career in her native Buffalo, NY, first with Erie Community College, then with D'Youville where she was twice named NEAC Coach Of The Year.

Ellie Hanover played college softball with the Canisius Golden Griffins, and led the MAAC in 1997 with a batting average of .451, which is still the ninth highest in conference history. She was named All-MAAC and All-MAAC Tournament that season.

Congratulations Coach Hanover!

My daughter is an incoming freshman on the Niagara softball team. She is very excited about coach Hanover taking over the program!

Is this true?

According to multiple sources, yes it is true.

A jump to division 1 in her home town; for Niagara, a young, quality coach who has paid her dues.

It's very true! My daughter is friend's with one of the girls on the team. She will definitely bring a lot to the program. With all the talent the team has now, it will only get better!

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since Niagara reportedly hired a new softball coach. Still no info. on their website! Maybe there is a good reason for this? Seems like the ahtletics-public relations dept. is always very slow to get things done. Have never seen any stories/info. about the new recruits signed for this coming season either! Seems like the other MAAC schools get things done in a more timely manner. Just my opinion.

Haha, they must have read your comment, because Niagara did officially announce their new coach today.
Former Purple Eagle Felicia Coffey Kinney has been retained as an assistant.

I still do not see anything on the new recruits....or updated rosters....public relations or whomever updates this site needs to get rolling on things! They seem to always be behind on it all

Don't expect much out of the official Niagara site until January.
I though will be seeing Niagara play this September.

I'm sure they will be playing. They do have a new coach now and I'm sure that coach is getting things ready for fall ball and beyond.

Most Div. 1 softball programs announce their signings with a bio. of the player on their website. Why Niagara fails to do this is a mystery. I guess what really matters is how they perform on the field.

I see that they do for every other sports at NU. Maybe things will change this year with the coach.

Mom of class of 2013 NU softball player!

Whoever left the comment here tonight...this is an old post(last year); Ellie Chan has come and gone.

Not really interested in discussing her any longer.
