Mikayla Powlowsky of Hudson, NH has verbally committed to play softball at Siena College beginning in the 2014 season.
If the name seems familiar, of course Mikayla is the younger sister of recently graduated Saint, All-MAAC Nastasha Powlowsky. While Nastasha was a catcher, Mikayla is a speedy center fielder; a player with the ability to get on base any way she can, and a constant base stealing threat. She is a teammate of future Saint Chelsey Drew at New Hampshire state champion Alvirne High School. Mikayla is currently on the roster of the New Jersey Intensity, a top east coast travel team; and has also played for the Polar Crush.

Sarah shutout out the Tex Town Tigers (the Netherlands) Thursday 7-0, improving her record to 3-0.
Former Iona College pitcher Sarah Jackson improved her record to 2-0 at the 2012 European Cup, leading Italy to a 3-2 win over Russia today in Enschede, the Netherlands.
It was a classic Sarah Jackson performance today, but this time it took place in the uniform of the Caserta softball club, which is representing Italy at the annual European Softball Cup. Carrousel of Russia touched Sarah for two runs in the first inning, helped along with a throwing error; but she shut down the Russian attack after that, ending the game with six shutout innings. Caserta chipped away at the lead, scoring once in the second and fourth innings. A seventh inning, two out single by Bianca Novelli brought home the winner, with Sarah closing the door in the bottom of the same frame. For the game, Sarah finished with eight strikeouts; walking only one batter in a five hit effort.
The playoffs begin Thursday, culminating in the championship game Saturday.

Chelsey Drew of Belmont, NH has verbally committed to play softball at Siena College beginning in the 2014 season.
Seems like the MAAC schools are signing nothing but state champions lately! The Siena Saints have just received a verbal from Chelsey Drew, a shortstop for two time defending New Hampshire State champion Alvirne High School (Nashua, NH). The Broncos are a very talented squad, and Chelsey is a big part of their success. She's a tall, athletic player with a hefty bat who hit over .400 in 2011, and .500 this past season. She smashed a towering homer for the game winner in the '12 Championship game. She has been an All-New Hampshire and All-Nashua selection the past two seasons. Chelsey plays travel ball with the Polar Crush.

Amanda Crimarco of Long Island, NY has verbally committed to play softball at Rider University beginning in the 2014 season.
Amanda is the starting shortstop at Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale, NY, where she helped the Firebirds earlier this year win their first ever New York State CHSAA Championship, capping off a 29-0 season. She was named to the All Nassau-Suffolk League team for her play in 2012. Amanda plays travel ball with the Long Island Sudden Impact, a program that has provided a lot of great players to the MAAC, including Haley Birnbaum, Melissa Donnelly and Erika Sullivan.

Founded in 1872, the Jesuit institution of higher learning formerly known as Saint Peter's College yesterday completed its designation transition and will from here on be known as Saint Peter's University.
The good news for us here at MAAC Softball is that the University has a brand new sports web site, which is a great improvement:
...and, unlike its predecessor, comes complete with an RSS feed, which means that current updates will now be found in our blog roll (on the right hand side of this page)!
Jordynn Barrera of Clinton, UT has verbally committed to play softball at Marist College beginning in the 2014 season.
Coach Ausanio gets an A+ for recruiting this summer as it appears that he is building a very strong near future team. His latest recruit is Utah State Class 4A Player Of The Year Jordynn Barrera. Jordynn is a shortstop at Roy High School in Roy, UT, where she led the Royals to their second consecutive state championship this past season. An outstanding defensive player, and a leadoff hitter, she is known most for clutch play in the big games. In the Utah State quarterfinals earlier this year, Jordynn brought her team back from the dead with a two run seventh inning home run. She smashed a pair of doubles in the title game. In 2011, she hit a late inning two run shot in the State championship game. She can hit for power and average. Jordynn plays travel ball with the Salt Lake Pegasus.

Very exciting commitment for the Red Foxes, as they land one of the top players in Alabama. Janna is a pitcher and outfielder for Alabama State 6A Champion Sparkman High School, a team that was ranked 26th in the nation this past season. She led the Lady Senators to a 64-7 record in 2012, as they plowed their way through the competition in the State Tournament, in which Janna earned the MVP award. In the circle she won three games at the tournament, but also drove home the winning run in the title game.
It's unclear at present whether or not Janna will pitch regularly at Marist, although she is termed as the "hardest thrower" on the Sparkman staff. She will certainly play, due in large part to her hitting ability. In 2012, she hit 11 home runs and 99 RBIs. Yes, you read that right...99 RBIs, which is an Alabama State record. yikes! Naturally, she was an All-Alabama selection. Janna plays travel ball with the Huntsville Sparks, who finished 17th in the 2011 ASA Nationals.
More concerning Marist later today...

The landscape in the MAAC just changed with a major signing by Niagara this week.
Jennifer Sansano, formerly of the Atlantic 10's St. Bonaventure Bonnies, has transferred to Niagara effective immediately, and will play for the Purple Eagles as the 2013 softball season gets underway next month.
The former All-New York State AA First Teamer and Western New York Pitcher Of The Year played at perennial power Clarence High School, where she smashed all pitching records. She pitched two seasons at St. Bonaventure, where she was 11-12 last year, including a no hitter.
Jen will join Kim Bryson on the pitching staff, giving the Purple Eagles a potentially potent double threat as both enter their junior seasons. Kim looks to be the premier power pitcher in the conference this season. They will be backed up by a pair of promising prospects, Brittney Sears and Sydney Smyers, giving Niagara more pitching depth than they've had in many seasons.
Welcome to the MAAC Jen!

Al Dirschberger will find himself surrounded this season by the blue and gold of Canisius College, as the Golden Griffins announced Wednesday that he will be joining Mike Rappl's staff as an assistant.
After coaching twenty plus seasons at Niagara, coach Dirschberger now will be in the dugout of that school's most fierce rival. Coach retired from his helm on Monteagle Ridge after this past season. For Canisius, they see their solid coaching staff get even better as they retool in an attempt to rise back to the top of the MAAC.
Of course, Niagara hired an ex Golden Griffin as their new head coach, so everything seems out of whack!
