The Canisius Golden Griffins improved their record to 7-1 with two more wins Monday at the weather delayed North Carolina A&T tournament in Greensboro, NC.
The Golden Griffins continued to roll out the offense today, striking for 22 hits in a pair of wins. In their rematch with St. Francis, they jumped to a first inning 4-0 lead when Michelle DelPrince's triple drove home Meghan Cuda, and the Nappo sisters both doubled (Val one RBI; Tori two). Val added another RBI and Michelle DelPrince scored after an error in the fifth inning for a 6-2 lead. Robin Kennery's two run double; and Marissa Miller's solo home run made the final score 9-3. Jen Consaul earned her fourth win of the season with a complete game that included eight strikeouts.
The Griffs' second game of the day, against Maryland-Eastern Shore, was more of the same. They went on top 3-0 in the third inning thanks to RBIs by Robin Kennery, Marissa Miller and Tori Nappo. Tori then drove home her fourth run of the day in the fifth inning; Robin Kennery and Stephanie Pfentner added RBIs in the sixth to put Canisius up 7-1. Amanda Baun improved her record to 3-0, going six innings, and allowing one run. Stephanie Pfentner was 3 for 3 in the game, raising her average to .632. The Golden Griffins were 4-0 at this tournament, and are enjoying their best start since 1994.
