|Lauren Filicia saved the day with her 7th inning assist|
The Fairfield Stags traveled to New Haven, CT Wednesday for a doubleheader with cross state rival Yale, and found themselves stymied by the Bulldogs' pitching until late in game two. After managing only three hits in the 4-0 game one loss, the Stags finally warmed up their bats in the sixth inning of the second game, cutting Yale's lead to 2-1 thanks to Rae Ball's RBI single which scored Lauren Liseth. The Stags then exploded with a four run seventh, with Kristen Filicia, Lauren Liseth and Nicole Capra providing the RBIs. They would need all those runs, because the Bulldogs' rallied in the bottom of the same inning to close the gap to 5-4. And Yale had the tying run rounding third and headed for home. However, center fielder Lauren Filicia gunned down Yale's Kelsey Warkentine at the plate to preserve the Fairfield lead. Yale did still have a runner at third, but Rae Ball, in relief of starter Lauren Falkanger, induced a pop up to end the game.
Fairfield is at Stony Brook on Thursday for a for a single game and final tuneup before opening MAAC play at Iona on Saturday.
