The Siena Saints won their first games of the seasons, scoring 29 runs in a doubleheader at Coppin St. Thursday in Baltimore, MD.

The Saints' offense got on track Thursday, and how! Siena was at Coppin St. for two in advance of their participation in this week's UMBC Classic. Their offense, which was very often powerful last season, needed the work. It got it, scoring 19 runs in game one, 15 of which came in inning number six. Those 15 runs set a new MAAC record for hits in an inning. The Saints were in such a zone, that their lineup was having three at bats in the inning! Everyone had a good game, but of note, Paige Lloyd did smash a grand slam home run. Stephanie Viggiano also cleared the bases with a triple. Game two saw the Saints hit double figures again, this time scoring 10 runs, and featured another grand slam homer, this time off the bat of Mandy Ferro.

In this doubleheader, senior Shannon Jones broke two career Siena records. She passed all-time Saints Carrie Getz (pictured left), in hits, and Jennifer Granato, in RBIs. If Shannon has a normal Jones season, she's going to continue to rewrite the Siena record book. But I'm sure she's more concerned about getting her team into the MAAC tournament. The Saints took an important step in that direction today. Now they have five important games coming up this weekend.
