St. Peter's 8
Coppin St. 7
The Saint Peter's Peahens won a thriller today in Baltimore, MD, overcoming a 7-1 deficit to beat Coppin State 8-7.
Down by six runs, the Peahens took advantage of three errors committed by Coppin State in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring five times to pull to within 7-6. Taylor Corretjer and Amber Velasquez both singled home runs in these innings. Alexis Gallagher then led off the top of the seventh inning with a single, which brought freshman Lee Harrison to the plate. Lee drilled a pitch down the left field line and over the fence to give the Peahens the 8-7 lead. In the bottom of the same inning, pitcher Shelby Beaver fielded the final out to complete a nice job in relief which saw her shutout Coppin State for the final three innings.
St. Peter's dropped their second game to Coppin State, 13-5 (6). Fran D'Amato was 5 for 8 on the day. The Peahens will play two scheduled games on Sunday, plus the resumption of Friday's suspended game.
