The Fairfield Stags handed the Manhattan Lady Jaspers their first MAAC losses of the season by sweeping them Sunday in Fairfield, CT.

Game one in this series was a MAAC classic, with the teams exchanging leads and finally settling the matter in extra innings. Fairfield opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Lauren Filicia sent home Sam Frungillo with a single. It would be the first of three RBIs in the game for Lauren. Her single in the third inning scored Lauren Liseth to give the Stags a 2-0 lead. The Lady Jaspers would come back to take the lead though. In the top of the fifth inning, MAAC home run leader Elena Bowman hit her 10th round tripper to cut the Fairfield lead in half. In the top of the sixth inning, Katie Bowen and Elena Bowman singles put the LJs on top 3-2. But in the bottom of the same inning, Lauren Filicia singled home her sister Kristen, and the game was all tied up at 3-3. Manhattan had an excellent chance to score in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases with one out, but Rae Ball, who had been relieved by Lauren Falkanger one batter into the inning then reentered, got the final two outs. Third baseman Nicole Capra forced out Anna Gallacher at home to preserve the tie. In the bottom of the eight inning, leadoff hitter Lauren Liseth was walked, as she usually is in that situation. And again, she would score the winning run, on Rae Ball's two out single. It's the third time this MAAC season Lauren was walked to open the final inning where she scored the winner. Only Marist pitched to her, and they won. Rae Ball got the win; Katie Bowen took the loss. Lauren Filicia had three hits to go along with those three RBIs. For Manhattan, Elena Bowman was 4 for 4.

Game two was the Becca Trott show, as the junior pitched probably her finest game of the season. She no hit Manhattan through the game's first five innings, allowing a total of only two hits for the game. Manhattan's only run came on a wild pitch. Fairfield scored all four of their runs in the game's first two innings. Lauren Filicia got her fourth RBI of the day in the first inning, followed by Sammy Ruffolo's run scored after a passed ball. In the second inning, Lauren Liseth's RBI double, and Rae Ball's sacrifice fly gave the Stags a 4-0 lead; they cruised to victory the rest of the way behind Becca Trott's arm.  Kelsi Redding took the loss for Manhattan. Lauren Liseth was 2 for 2 for the Stags, who managed only five hits. But they made the most of them. Fairfield, with the sweep, solidified their position as MAAC favorites. Although Manhattan lost both games, they proved they are for real in 2013.
