Fairfield Sweeps St. Peter's

4 RBI day for Sammy Ruffolo
Fairfield 9
St. Peter's 1 (6)

Fairfield 3
St. Peter's 0

The Fairfield Stags swept the St. Peter's Peacocoks in a MAAC doubleheader Saturday in Fairfield, CT.

Fairfield jumped in front 4-0 in game one in the first inning with only one hit, being helped by a pair of Peacocok errors. A sacrifice fly by Nicole Capra produced one run; Rae Ball's single produced two more. Lauren Liseth, who naturally had been intentionally walked, scored an unearned run. Amber Velasquez's first college home run in the top of the second inning cut Fairfield's lead to 4-1, but that was as close as the Peacocks would get. Kristen Filicia's two RBI single and Sammy Ruffolo's sacrifice fly gave the Stags a 7-1 lead after three innings. Sam Frungillo's solo homer in the fourth inning increased that lead to 8-1; and Rae Ball's third RBI of the game in the sixth inning ended the game early, giving Fairfield the 9-1 win. Rae got the win in the circle; Tori Feorenzo suffered the loss. Rae Ball was 3 for 4 in the game.

Game two was highlighted by Becca Trott's three hit shutout, a 3-0 win. Sammy Ruffolo drove home all three runs for the Stags. In the first inning, she singled home Kristen Filicia, who had tripled. In the second inning, Sammy tripled herself, sending home two runners. Erica Colon pitched well for the Peacocks, allowing only six hits, but took the loss. Fairfield improved to 5-3 in the MAAC; St. Peter's fell to 1-5.
