|Sydney Weedon's late inning homer won game two|
Rider 1 (5)
The Manhattan Lady Jaspers improved their MAAC best record to 6-0 with a sweep of the Rider Broncs Saturday in Riverdale, NY.
The Lady Jaspers scored once in the bottom of the first inning of game one thanks to Amanda Babcock's RBI, but it was in the second inning when their offense exploded, scoring 11 runs. The LJs had six hits in that inning, and were helped by two errors. They seemed to forever have the bases loaded. RBIs by Amanda Babcock, Andi Stallard, Sydney Weedon, Jen Keller and two apiece by Katie Bowen and Elena Bowman paced the onslaught. Sydney Weedon added another RBI in the third inning. The run rule shutout was spoiled Amanda Irving's RBI in the top of the fifth inning; but Manhattan won 13-1. Katie Bowen got the win; Ali Meagher took the loss.
The bad news coming from Rider is that two of their freshmen pitchers are injured, very possibly for the rest of the season. Therefore Ali Meagher had to get right back in the circle for game two. Incredibly, after the game she just had, Ali pitched extremely well, holding the LJs to one run and three hits through the game's first five innings. The Broncs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Amanda Irving singled home Dana Sensi. Manhattan tied the score at 1-1 with Jen Keller's RBI. The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the sixth inning when Sydney Weedon drove a pitch over the center field fence good for two runs. After a walk to Emily Cutler, Katie Bowen increased the LJ lead to 5-1 with a homer over the right field fence. Amy Bright got the win, striking out six. Ali Meagher took the loss, and has a lot of pitching left in front of her. Rider dropped to 2-4.
