The Manhattan Lady Jaspers jumped into first place in the MAAC with a doubleheader sweep of St. Peter's in Riverdale, NY Saturday.

The first game of this MAAC doubleheader started well for St. Peter's when Fran D'Amato drilled a pitch over the center field fence in the top of the first inning to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead. Manhattan responded quickly however, with freshman Elena Bowman knocking out a homer of her own to tie the game in the bottom of the same inning. The Lady Jaspers then exploded for six runs in the third inning to effectively put this game away. After Katie Bowen led off the frame with a single, Elena Bowman smashed her second homer of the game for a 3-1 Manhattan lead. It was Elena's eighth of the season, tops in the MAAC. Andi Stallard doubled home a run to make the score 4-1. Walks to Jocelin Whitmore and Emily Cutler increased that lead to 6-1. Elena Bowman made it to the plate again in the inning, and recorded her fourth RBI of the game after being hit by a pitch. St. Peter's scored a run in the sixth inning after doubles by Nicole Olmedo and Sierra Parker, but could get no closer to Manhattan than the 7-2 final score. Elena Bowman, Andi Stallard and Amanda Babcock each had a pair of hits for the LJs. Fran D'Amato and Siera Parker both had two hits for the Peacocks. Katie Bowen got the win; Shelby Beaver took the loss.

St. Peter's once again took a first inning 1-0 lead in game two, thanks to Nicole Olmedo's RBI double. But again the LJs responded immediately; this time with three runs in the bottom of the same inning. After Katie Bowen led off with a single, and Elena Bowman was issued a walk, Amanda Babcock drove a pitch over the left field fence good for a 3-1 lead. Andi Stallard scored on a wild pitch in the third inning, giving Manhattan a 4-1 win. Amy Bright tossed a four hitter for the win; again Shelby Beaver took the loss. Manhattan begins the MAAC season at 2-0. St. Peter's dropped to 1-3.
