|Rae Ball remains the top pitcher in the MAAC|
The Fairfield Stags earned a berth in the MAAC Championship with a pair of easy wins over the Canisius Golden Griffins Sunday in Fairfield, CT.
Game one saw the Stags score all their runs in the bottom of the third inning. After loading the bases with a couple walks and a Kristen Filicia double, Fairfield opened the scoring when Canisius starter Amanda Baun hit Lauren Filicia with a pitch. This was followed with Sam Frungillo's double which produced two more runs. Canisius couldn't get to Fairfield starter Rae Ball until the seventh inning when they scored one run, but by then it was too late. Rae improved her record to 12-7. Sam Frungillo was 2 for 3 in the game.
Game two gave the Stags the chance to clinch a top four spot, and they did with a 5-1 win. Again the Stags scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning, with RBIs by the Filicia sisters, Kristen and Lauren, and the help of a Canisius error. The Stags scored twice more in the fifth inning, with the help of another Canisius error, and Taylor August's RBI. Becca Trott picked up the win; Jen Consaul took the loss. Kristen Filicia was 3 for 4.
Fairfield is now 10-4, and will prepare for the tournament. They have two more MAAC games remaining, with a chance at the number seed. Canisius dropped to 6-8, and out of post season contention.
