Marist 5 (6)
Marist 4 (8)
The Siena Saints made history when they swept the Marist Red Foxes Sunday in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The Saints are playing awfully good softball right now, and they cut through game one of their doubleheader at Marist like a buzz saw. The Red Foxes did take a 2-0 first inning lead by scoring a pair of unearned runs, but the Saints sprinted ahead with a seven run second inning. RBIs by Meg Volz, Abby Carpenter, Paige Lloyd, Manday Ferro, Shannon Jones and Jessika-Jo Sandrini gave them an insurmountable lead. Sarah Carmody and Nicole Cheek did drive home runs to tighten the scored a bit, but Siena scored eight more runs to end the game early. Jordan Sandrini added icing to the cake by hitting her first career home run, a three run shot, and Siena won 15-5. Jessika-Jo Sandrini got the win for the Saints.
Siena jumped in front 4-0 in game two, thanks to RBIs by Jessika-Jo Sandrini, Paige Lloyd. Mandy Ferro and Abby Carpenter. This time, however, the Red Foxes were able to battle back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and send the game to extras. Janine Lalli, Christina Lausch and Sarah Carmody drove home runs for Marist. In the top of the eight inning, Abby Carpenter's double drove home Jessika-Jo Sandrini with the winning run. Paige Lloyd, who was 3 for 4 in the game, added another RBI, and the Saints were MAAC regular season champs. Jessika-Jo won another game, her 15th win of the season.
Marist finishes 10-6, and will be the number 3 seed on their home field on Thursday, and will open against Fairfield. Senior Dani Koltz broke the all-time Marist single season run record by scoring twice. Siena finishes with their best MAAC season in history, 12-4, and will be the number 1 seed when they face Niagara on Thursday.
