Niagara Drops Pair As Season Begins

Senior Desarae Maldonado doubled home a pair vs. Toledo
Cleveland St. 8
Niagara 0

Toledo 12
Niagara 2

MAAC softball season got officially underway Friday in Cleveland, Ohio as the Niagara Purple Eagles played two games under the dome. It was a rough start for Niagara though. Game one saw them lose 8-0 to the host Vikings. Chanelle Ward doubled; Ally Gay and Victoria Bretz singled. But that was all Niagara could muster. Sydney Smyers took the loss, pitching three innings. Game two vs. Toledo was closer for a while, with Desarae Maldonado doubling home two runs in the second inning. But the Rockets would pull away after that. Taylor Grieger took the loss for the Purple Eagles; freshman Sarah Trifoso hit 2 for 3 in her college debut.

Niagara is back at it Saturday in the Dome; and will be joined by Canisius who will play their season opener.
