Big Weekend For Amy Bright

All the talk about the Manhattan softball team has been centered around their powerful offense, led by Elena Bowman, but senior starting pitcher Amy Bright tossed a couple of gems this weekend. And in doing so, she has strengthened the Lady Jaspers' championship aspirations.

Amy Bright pitched two shutouts this weekend, one an extra innings game, and remarkably walked not a single batter in doing so. On Saturday she beat Santa Clara 2-0 in eight innings, on their own field. She scattered five hits, keeping her team in the game until they got the winning run in extras, which was provided by a Meredith Bryant RBI double. On Sunday, she shutdown Brown 8-0, allowing only four hits while maintaining perfect control. Amanda Paxson, the LJs "other great hitter", was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Emily Cutler also drove home two runs.

Manhattan will again play Santa Clara on Sunday before heading home.
