Saturday In The MAAC

The Red Foxes' Maureen Duddy hit 5 for 8 Saturday
A lot of run scoring for MAAC teams Saturday, but only two wins to show for it as the 2015 softball season continued yesterday.

The Marist Red Foxes split a pair of games. In their opener vs. Wilmington, they jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but would surrender the final nine runs of the game in a 9-5 loss. They would bounce back later in the day vs. North Carolina A&T. After giving up a solo home run in the first inning of that game, pitcher Melanie White went on to strike out nine batters the rest of the way in a 5-2 win. Maureen Duddy scored three runs in the game, capping off a big day that saw her hit 5 for 8.

Canisius got good pitching from a pair of freshmen Saturday. They lost their first game, 4-2 to Army, but it went nine innings before reaching a decision. Madi Weathers had allowed just an unearned run through the game's first seven innings. In the Griffs' game vs. Brown, a 6-2 win, fellow freshman Erika Mackie earned her first collegiate win, with Madi Weathers picking up the save (Madi earned her first win on Friday vs. Cornell). Lindsey Silfer smashed a two run homer in the game; Meghan Cuda hit a two run triple.

Siena scored 13 runs on Saturday, but lost both of their games. They gave a great effort against #26 Kansas, with a six run fourth inning which gave them a shocking 7-2 lead, but they could not hold the Jayhawks back, and lost 9-7. The Saints then dropped an 11-6 decision to Stony Brook, after rallying for four runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead. They had a 6-5 lead in the seventh inning, but again could not hold on. Paige Lloyd and Paige Hess each drove home two runs.

Iona stormed out to a 3-0 lead in their season opening game vs. Greensboro, but ended up losing 8-5. Against George Washington, the game was never in doubt as the Gaels fell behind early, losing 13-2. Sarah Schutz was 3 for 3 vs. GWU.
