Siena 20 (!)
St. Peter's 11 (5)
St. Peter's 3
The Siena Saints swept the St. Peter's Peacocks in a MAAC doubleheader Sunday in Jersey City, New Jersey, reaching 20 runs in a game for the first time in over ten years.
The first game of this series was one of the oddest MAAC games in recent history. The Saints put up an amazing 20 runs in this five inning game, but at one point the Peacocks made a six run rally to close to within 12-11! Siena pounded out 19 hits, led by freshman infielder Paige Hess who hit 4 for 5 with two homers, a double and seven RBIs. Paige is batting .385 this season. Senior Abby Carpenter had a huge day, with a homer and six RBIs. Paige Lloyd drove home three runs herself. For St. Peter's, Nicole Olmedo hit a home run and two doubles. Lee Harrison hit her second three run homer in as many games, which put her team back in the game, if only for a bit. Siena proved that their prodigious output of last week was no fluke.
The Saints won game two 6-3, but in a way it was anticlimactic after the earlier fireworks. Siena scored "only" six runs on "only" eight hits. Alyssa Lancaster seemed recovered from a nagging injury, smashing a two run double. Amanda Gatt cruised through six innings of two hit shutout pitching until the Peacocks scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Siena is 2-2 in the MAAC, and will play at Manhattan on Monday. St. Peter's fell to 0-4.
