The Iona Gaels swept the St. Peter's Peacocks in a MAAC doubleheader Sunday in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The Iona Gaels went on a 31 run onslaught Sunday to get themselves back into contention in the MAAC. And they were led by their prolific home run hitter Kristen Turner, whose arms must be tired today from swatting so many softballs over the fences! Kristen clubbed a total of four home runs Sunday, to lift her back among the MAAC's leaders in that category. She smashed three of them in game one, hitting 4 for 5 with five RBIs in the Gaels' 18-0 romp. And that game ended after five innings. Christine Costello also hit one out, and finished the game with four RBIs. Courtney Miller hit a homer as well, driving home four runs herself. Allie Hand had four hits, and Jessica Harkness earned the circle win, allowing just three hits.
More of the same in game two for Iona in a 13-6 win. Kristen Turner blasted a two run homer over the center field fence in the first inning, her fourth of the doubleheader and fifth in three games. Lauren Filardi hit 3 for 3 for the Gaels; Ashlynn Morris drove home three runs, with Allie Hand driving home another pair. Stacey Klempel hit a three run homer for the Peacocks. Sarah McMahon earned the circle win.
Iona improved to 5-5 in the MAAC; St. Peter's fell to 0-10.
